Dragon Scale Books

Dragon Scale Books

Made completely out of kids craft foam from Michaels. I slapped some gesso on it and then painted them. Despite the fact that this will be a short post, this actually takes a (REALLY REALLY) long time to make. It's all the fussy cutting, really. Cutting the strips and then cutting into those strips and such. So I sat my butt down in front of the TV and spent a (couple of) evenings cutting out dragon scale from craft foam.

The green book was actually designed on a book box (the crafting kind you can decorate, as seen...well...here). Because I was learning as I went, it does not actually open and just exists to showcase the way I make dragon scales.
This red book is my more up-to-date project. It's actually designed on a lined journal in case someone wanted to use it for a Spell Book for D&D or art...or other things. Important things.

1:12 Scale Stir Stick Bed

1:12 Scale Stir Stick Bed

In all honesty, the bed is actually a bit short for 1:12 scale because I've been designing it to fit a certain, pre-determined space, but for the sake of argument, we'll call it 1:12 scale.

It's made almost entirely out of wooden coffee stir sticks. The posts are made from basswood as well as the bed rails.

I used a sanding metal thingy (that's the technical term) to put some interesting shapes into the bed. A rasp? No. I don't know what it's called. But it's super useful.

The "mattress" is made of two pieces of foamcore glued together and covered with an old t-shirt.

This has been put on the back burner, as many of my projects tend to be, so it remains unfinished and unplaced in it's final setting.

Art From Family

The Still

About a year ago, my Father-in-law (Ken) made this still for my Mother-in-law (Glenda). It fits in the palm of your hand and is just plain awesome. I've never seen it's ilk before and wanted to share a couple pictures of it with you. All I know is that the building of it involved wood from one of those clementine boxes.

It doesn't fit a specific scale, but I did see it this Christmas alongside my MIL's Christmas village - possibly for a giant drunken Santa Claus to end his evening beside.
